Baseline Attribute into current Module

Hello,

does anybody know how to link an attribute from a baseline into the current moduel. The attribute is deleted in the current module.

I had to clean up some module attributes. Now I want to make sure the attribute contents can be recreated if demanded.

Thank you in advance and please keep in mind I'm a beginner.

Hi,

For now you don't need to do anything, since all the information you need is available.

The objects in the baseline have their "Absolute Number"-Attribute as an identifier.

The same identifier is in the current version.

So, if you have to recreate the attributes, you would do it in the following way:

  • open the current Module (exclusive Edit)
  • recreate the attribute definitions
  • open the baseline
  • For every object in the current module:
    • look up its Absolute Number
    • locate the object in the baseline with the same Absolute Number
    • read the latter's attribute value
    • write this value into the current object's attribute
  • save current version, close both versions

Hope this helps,

Mike

Hi Mike,

thank you for the respond.

Yes, this would be one way to gather the information needed.

But in case serveral modules need some informations to be recreated and each one has more that 500 objects copy and paste is going to take a while.

Therefore I'm looking for a script which can recreate the baseline content of one or more attributes itself.

Maybe DOORS has a function like this already?

Open the baseline and export Object Identfier and the attribute you are interested in to spreadsheet (CSV) format. Import the CSV file into the current module version using the Object Identifier as the unique identifier.

I was of course thinking of a script which does this, not of doing it manually (this is the DXL forum after all) :-)

But Pekka is right - his way is way easier to use...
